Rising from the ashes with Toro's help

Boringdon Park Golf Club in Plymouth has struck a £550,000 deal with Toro that sees the resilient club looking forward to the future after an unfortunate fire destroyed the club’s entire fleet of machinery.

Here Justin Austin, course manager, explains what happened: “The fire was devastating. It was, fortunately, brought under control before it could damage the two courses, but it destroyed the entire shed and everything in it. Happening as it did at the beginning of the year, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy replacing the stock as every manufacturer was experiencing delays to the supply and distribution chain due to COVID.”

Toro chosen for SSSI irrigation intricacies at West Sussex Golf Club

The intricacies of selecting and installing the right irrigation network are no more pronounced than for West Sussex Golf Club, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, which recently completed the installation of a full course Toro irrigation system.

Set on the very rare terrain which is Lowland Heath with extensive heather, Scots Pine and birch, the club had very clear expectations of what it wanted for both the course and its members. The new system also had to meet the specific requirements of Natural England in their approval of the required work.

Kerr Rowan, course manager at West Sussex Golf Club, elaborates: “We are fortunate to be one of a small number of traditional heathland golf clubs in the country. Our players gravitate towards the firm, fiery and fast fairways.

    Renovation for innovation

Reesink Turfcare has long recommended renovation for irrigation wherever possible. It solves multitude of issues, keeps costs down, minimises disruption and brings the system bang up to date. And with Reesink’s training support on hand too, it’s been a winning combination for Breadsall Priory Golf Club.

Renovating its irrigation was an approach recommended to John Smith, course manager at Breadsall Priory, by Reesink when the system started experiencing communication errors and electrical breakdowns on both its systems on both its courses in 2018.

At the time John said: “Completely replacing everything would have resulted in huge costs, but with the help of Reesink’s Toro irrigation team, including Peter Newton, we discovered we only needed to upgrade the two control systems and we’ve saved a lot of money thanks to renovating rather than replacing.”

The existing wiring and pipework were found to be compatible with being updated to Toro’s Lynx central control system which would control the irrigation on both courses.

    Greensmaster e1021 pedestrian mower

Toro is at it again. Taking an industry favourite, keeping the essence of what makes it popular, but moving it along with the times. The latest case in point is the all-electric fixed-head Greensmaster e1021 pedestrian mower.

The latest addition in the brand’s line-up of all-electric mowers, takes the greensmaster – a name that’s synonymous with excellence – and adds to it an advanced lithium-ion battery.

Making it ready for now and the future, this technology – for which Toro is renowned – ensures a long operation time, high productivity and reduced operating costs. And you can get an early start, too, because the quiet operation lets you work anytime even in areas with noise restrictions or regulations.

It can mow up to 35,000 square feet (over 3,000 square metres) of turf on a single charge and a convenient LCD screen gives an instant view of the ongoing battery charge status.
