A

Auto Steer

-

The Auto Steer feature provides steering guidance control, making it easy to operate the sprayer consistently and skilfully with centimetre-level accuracy.

B

Backlapping

-

A method to simultaneously sharpen the cutting edges of the cylinder (reel) blades and bedknife. Backlapping is done by reversing the rotation of the cylinder from the normal mowing direction. An abrasive paste (slurry) is applied to the rotating cylinder blades with a long handled brush to aid in the sharpening process. There are different grit pastes and grades depending on need.

Battery Management System (BMS)

-

BMS optimises battery performance to enhance reliability, and because the BMS is integrated, HyperCell batteries communicate with each other to place a priority on efficiency and extended life. BMS is engineered to reduce the risk of accidental shock by de-energising the HyperCell batteries by default. This helps regulate the battery charge, discharge and temperature which helps prolong the life of the battery.

C

Clip rate

-

The distance between sheer points. When the bedknife pushes grass forward, while the cylinder blade gathers it toward the bedknife, you have the ideal clip rate. This is achieved when the bedknife and cylinder blades create small, even gatherings that are then cut. The result is a small, unnoticeable clip and an even aftercut appearance.

Coil-over shocks

-

A coilover suspension allows individual adjustment of the ground clearance, more adjustability, making them excellent for performance-oriented drivers who seek a tailored driving experience. Add to that an Active In-Frame twister joint, as Toro will often do, for additional comfort.

CrossTrax

-

If you read that a mower has a CrossTrax system you can be sure of superior traction, meaning the mower can handle challenging terrains and wet conditions with ease, optimising traction with full-time, bi-directional 4-wheel drive.

D

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

-

The diesel particulate filter is part of the exhaust system. It plays a key role in the process of removing particulate matter, or unburnt fuel (aka soot), from the diesel engine exhaust and a normal and necessary part of reducing harmful emissions in order to comply with EPA-mandated Tier 4 regulations.

Double A-Arm

-

The Toro Double A-Arm suspension system maintains a full floatation range to ensure all three cutting units float freely over undulating or uneven terrain. This prevents gouging or scalping for advanced mowing and when coupled with the Lift-In-Turn system the mower delivers both vertical and lateral unit movement for a consistent finish in a turn.

DPA cutting units

-

A Toro exclusive, the quick-change DPA cutting units have a rigid, non-flexing cutting frame and fewer movable components compared to the competition. This means they are stronger and require fewer adjustments.

E

Elastomeric Vibration Control (ELC)

-

ELC uses special geometry profiled elastomers and mounting fixtures to provide passive vibration isolation. That means when you see bench seats in, for example, the Workman range boasting this technology, you’ll be in for a far smoother and more comfortable ride on rough terrain.

EdgeSeries

-

Toro is constantly working on ways to improve its cutting systems for the best results. A classic case in point – the EdgeSeries cylinders. Designed from the start for longer life with less maintenance while taking quality of cut to the next level, they last longer and improve turf health too. You’ll find them on all Toro Greensmaster and Reelmaster mowers built after its launch in 2016.

G

GeoLink

-

GeoLink is the industry’s first turf-based precision spray system bringing substantial chemical savings to the spraying process, thanks to single-nozzle control and the available centimetre location accuracy.

GPS

-

GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It’s a key feature of the GeoLink and provides advanced, real-time tracking with a Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), to eliminate the risk of overspraying and, potentially damaging, turf.

H

Height-of-cut

-

Unique mowing heights are a defining characteristic that help distinguish the different playing surfaces throughout a golf course. Typically, there are at least three different cutting heights, the lowest of which is used on putting greens. Achieving such a low cutting height requires specialised mowers, and the combination of precise mowing equipment and agronomic expertise allow greenkeepers to push grass to incredible levels.

HybridDrive

-

The term ‘hybrid drive system’ encompasses three different forms of hybrid technology. There’s PowerMatch, also featured in this Glossary, all-electric reel circuit which was custom-designed with ample power for the most demanding applications, and the HybridDrive cutting deck system, which combines a hydraulic motor to drive one spindle, with the remaining spindles driven by individual B section Kevlar® v-belts.

HyperCell

-

HyperCell is the world’s leading manufacturer and innovator of lithium-ion batteries but as usual Toro has applied its own touch to the battery design. Toro’s patent-pending HyperCell technology is engineered to prolong battery life by regulating charge, discharge and temperature and each battery provides diagnostic information through the intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) software to place the knowledge at your fingertips. Toro is so confident in its achievements that the company validated its battery design through a third-party testing provider.

I

InfoCentre

-

The InfoCentre is all about providing quick access to important data. It provides basic information on many machines such as fuel tank levels, battery charge, engine RPM, hour metre readings and oil temperature. Think of it like the dashboard on your car. It’s the typical information you’ll want to know during operation and provides troubleshooting and diagnostic help.

K

KZValve

-

An industry-exclusive, KZValve electronically-activated ball section valves offer improved reliability, fast response and are easily serviceable for long life and outstanding performance, making spraying a breeze.

L

Lift-In-Turn

-

When the suspension system of the cutting unit is designed to provide a slight lift to the inside during turns, it gives a lift to deliver a consistently level cut and to reduce triplex ring for improved playability and turf health.

Lift-Gate Footrest

-

The unique design of the footrest provides easy and open access to the centre cutting unit for adjustments or clippings removal and eliminating the need to return to the workshop or to put the greensmower on a lift for routine cutting unit maintenance.

M

MatchDrive

-

The MatchDrive variable speed electric transmission offers a greater speed range while also allowing fine-tuning to suit conditions and a consistent cut when using multiple units. The system provides three preset speeds, consistent with the mechanical drive on the ProStripe, plus an additional variable speed option.

MVP

-

We’ve heard many variations of the meaning of MVP kits over the years, but we can confirm that when it comes to Toro Parts, it means Maintenance Value Performance (MVP). It’s used in relation to the handy parts kits Toro produces for many common maintenance jobs such as hose kits, cutting unit overhaul kits, deck kits and filter kits. You can trust that all the required parts are included in a single package to make ordering and completing the job easier and less expensive.

P

Powermatch

-

Toro’s patented hybrid power delivery system, PowerMatch matches the power generated to the power required for all cutting conditions. It combines two power sources – a Kubota diesel engine with an in-line motor generator and a self-recharging 48-volt battery pack – to make over 40 horsepower available, but only when conditions require it – saving an average of 20 percent on fuel usage

Proprietary speed control

-

Proprietary speed control allows for the perfect amount of power to be applied to the job, no matter the desired ground speed. This can mean lower RPMs, and with it lower fuel consumption and sound, or higher RPMs for more power to haul a heavy load.

Q

Quick Attach System (QAS)

-

Toro leads the way with patented features and QAS means you can switch from one attachment to another in under a minute, with no tools required.

QuickChange

-

When a machine features QuickChange cutting units you know servicing the cutting units will be fast and easy and, best of all, tool free.

R

Radius dependant speed system (RDS)

-

RDS controls individual cylinder speed while following a curve, ensuring each cylinder is maintaining the optimal clip rate for the path it’s following.

Reel Control

-

Reel control allows for the precise setting of the clip and consistent power across all five cutting units for a superior cut. The cutting units also feature low-drag seals and low-friction bearing which improve wear and reduce the required horsepower to run the decks.

ROPS

-

Standing for a Rollover Protection System, this is either a roll bar or cage frame designed to form a zone of protection around the operator, keeping them safe should the machine ever roll.

RotaLink

-

RotaLink geometry designed into the Toro line of aerators, ensures the tines enter and exit the ground cleanly to leave a high quality finish and quicker return to play.

RTK

-

Incorporating Real Time Kinematic (RTK) correction technology means the Geolink precision spray system can receive signals from four different groups of satellites known as constellations that provide precise location information.

S

Series/Parallel three-wheel drive system

-

Toro’s patented Series/Parallel 3-wheel drive system provides power to at least two wheels at all times. The result is impressive traction in hilly and wet conditions with minimal wheel slip so it’s also gentle on the turf.

Smartcool

-

Exclusive to Toro, SmartCool technology notices when things heat up under the hood and briefly reverses the cooling fan to blast chaff and debris from the air intake screens to help reduce overheating. It’s a big time saver which reduces the amount of times an operator has to stop and exit the unit to clean the back hood.

Smart Power

-

Toro’s Smart Power technology automatically adjusts the mower’s engine speed for the cutting conditions to maintain optimal power to the blades taking the guesswork out of a consistent cut. Whether climbing hills or mowing through thick grass, Smart Power traction prevents the machine from bogging down. It electronically slows the ground speed when necessary to shift more power to the blades, maintaining the best blade speed at all times for a superior quality of cut.

Smart Speed

-

Smart Speed lets you choose different ground speed ranges with the flip of a lever, either 0 to 11km/h or 0 to 6.4km/h, without changing the engine or blade speed. Now, you can mow large, open areas at a high speed to finish quickly.

T

Tier 4/Stage V emission compliant

-

Stage V refers to exhaust emissions standards introduced by the EU for non-road mobile machinery using spark ignited and compression ignition engines. The only option for customers purchasing diesel powered products in the 18.6-55.2kW (25-74hp) range is to buy a Tier 4-compliant product. Rest assured all Toro machines now produced in this range are designed with Stage V compliance in mind.

TriPlex ring

-

The TriPlex ring gets its name from the fact that it’s perhaps the most common problem associated with the use of a triplex mower – a ring of weak, scalped or dead grass around the perimeter of the green in the area where the triplex mower makes its final cleanup pass. As you’d expect, Toro considers this in its design process and you can now choose mowers, most recently the Greensmaster eTriFlex 3370, which help eliminate the problem.

TrueCore

-

TrueCore relates to the sensing system on the ProCore series of aerators. This feature allows the aerator to automatically maintain tine depth on the fly to match the ground undulations and provide consistent coring depth.
